The fifth Budapest Open took place on 28th January 2017 at the usual venue, the University Boxing Club. Based on preliminary inquiries we expected a record number of entries. Finally, we welcomed 117 athletes, from 9 countries.
The officials on the two rings worked all day, almost without a break. Next year, we will have to plan the competition over two days flat. A special pleasure for us was that more than half of the participants were young athletes.
Belgian teams had the largest number of entries this year, but many also came from the neighbouring Croatian Kovačić Fight Club, and for the first time Serbian clubs were able to participate We also invited one of the most successful kick-boxing club in the country, the Island of St. Nicholas Tököl SE who were very successful (4 gold), and participated in a combat match.
The tournament was streamed online, which can be viewed on our Facebook page still. Officials at the event included Julie Gabriel, president of the FISav, and Maja Odžić, chair of the FISav Arbitrage Committee.
Our work continued after the competition, with a late-night meeting of the FISav Youth Commission planning future strategies.
